Dr. Akhtar earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Geisinger Medical Center. He is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

He has an interest in general gastroenterology, which includes acid reflux, colon cancer screening, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

In his free time, Dr. Akhtar enjoys spending time with his wife, twin boys, and pet cat. His hobbies include spending time with family, friends, reading, watching movies and sports.
